Working as business partners, Jim Larkin and Michael Lacey did a lot of publishing on corruption and immigrant rights. The men did not have one group they targeted, but they wanted to make sure they were inclusive of everyone.

They always tried to help people who were minorities, who were females or who came from different backgrounds than what they were used to. The men had a lot of experience working in different situations and that’s what allowed them the chance to publish information on the issues in the world.

While they were working in their own hometown, which was a border town, they noticed the sheriff was very corrupt. There were things that were happening that just didn’t add up and Jim Larkin and Michael Lacey did what they could to get to the bottom of it. They found out information he was trying to keep secret and that made things hard for him to hold on while he was working in different parts of the county. They also did what they could to expose the issues he had while he was helping other people with their own corruption.

When Jim Larkin and Michael Lacey started to talk about the things that were going on and the way they had to deal with issues, they knew they were going to have some backlash from it. What they never realized is the sheriff would try to charge them with a crime.

They had the freedom of the press and the constitution on their side. They didn’t think anything would go wrong especially because everything they published was true and obtained legally.

The sheriff didn’t see it that way, though. He saw them as a threat to success. Continuing in his tradition of corruption, the sheriff had the men arrested. He wanted to shut them up and that was the easiest way he could do it. When he had them arrested, he made sure he was doing everything he could to charge them with trying to slander him.

The men didn’t want to be stuck with that so they fought the charges. They won the case. They collected on the money the sheriff was required to pay them and they started the Frontera Fund to help others who had to deal with corruption
