Highland Capital Management Makes Generous Gift To The Bush Presidential Center

On January 9, 2018, an announcement was made that Dallas-based Highland Capital Management had made a $10 million endowment gift. The money was given to the George W. Bush Presidential Center in order to support their ongoing activities. Highland Capital Management will be the presenting sponsor of “Engage at the Bush Center, presented by Highland Capital Management”, a new series that will host thought leaders, authors, and newsmakers at this center. Kenneth Hersh is the chief executive officer of the Bush Presidential Center. Jim Dondero is the CEO and a co-founder of Highland Capital Management. They made this announcement in a joint statement. Kenneth Hersh thanked the team at Highland Capital Management and Jim Dondero in particular. In the joint statement, Jim Dondero said that he and his team have been impressed with both the national influence of the Bush Presidential Center and how it has impacted the community of Dallas and its surrounding region. He thinks that the Engage Series that his company is now sponsoring will make a positive impact on the discussion regarding urgent policy issues that need to be decided on. He also stated that he was proud to be a sponsor of the Bush Presidential Center.

As part of the endowment, Highland Capital Management will have an annual event called “Highland Capital Lecture” as part of the Engage Series of events. It was also announced that Jim Dondero has been selected to join the Bush Presidential Center’s Executive Advisory Council. The first event is going to occur on February 5th which will be a two-part program. This program has been developed in a partnership with the National Constitution Center and will feature Christopher Scalia. The program will focus on his late father’s speeches, James Madison, and current media. Christoper is the son of Antonin Scalia who was a Supreme Court Justice until his sudden passing February 3, 2016.

They specialize in alternative assets such as hedge funds, separate accounts, private equity, and collateralized loan obligations.
