Sheldon Lavin’s Leadership has Steered OSI Group to Great Heights

Written by

There comes a time in life when you engage in activities that will, in turn, change your life for the better. With that said, the context in this article will mainly focus on Sheldon Lavin and OSI Group. As for OSI Group, it started out as a small butcher shop that was launched by Otto Kolschowsky back in 1909. With time, the butcher shop grew, and it was even rebranded to Otto & Sons in 1928. The rebranding took place since Otto Kolschowsky saw it fit to engage his sons in his business, thereby turning his business enterprise into a family business.

Background Data

Otto Kolschowsky was among the immigrants who were from Germany and decided to settle in Chicago Illinois. While opening a butcher shop back in the day, he never had the vision that his butcher shop would later grow into one of the world’s leading food service providers. By rebranding his business to Otto & Sons, Otto Kolschowsky gave his sons an opportunity to delve into entrepreneurship.

The symbiosis between Two Business Entities

McDonald’s was a restaurant that was also launched during the 20th century. The McDonald’s entity decided to work hand in hand with Otto & Sons. Otto & Sons had become a renowned brand that supplied quality meat products that always maintained the mark of freshness. With time, the partnership between both companies flourished at an exponential rate. Nevertheless, the enormous rate of growth by McDonald’s presented Otto & Sons with a major hurdle. Since McDonald’s was quickly growing and opening more and more branches in every city, Otto & Sons were presented with the challenge that entailed transporting meat products over long distances while also preserving the freshness of their products. Luckily, they were able to come across some technology that entailed using liquid nitrogen as a food preservative.

Far from attaining such a breakthrough, the sons of Otto Kolschowsky were fast approaching their retirement age. Otto & Sons were still doing well since they also had help from the likes of Sheldon Lavin who played a major role in assisting the company to outsource capital that was put into constructing a plant in 1973 that was solely dedicated to serving the McDonald’s enterprise. Also, during this period, Sheldon Lavin also joined the company as a managing partner.

Otto & Sons came to be known as OSI Group in 1975. The rebranding came about when the company was experiencing a tremendous growth rate. As the company continued to thrive, Sheldon Lavin continued to steer OSI Group towards global expansion. Through his exemplary leadership, Sheldon Lavin has contributed significantly to the presence of OSI Group globally. Moreover, Mr. Lavin’s proper direction has earned OSI Group the title of being among the leading foodservice providers globally.
