OSI Group is one of the largest privately-held companies in the United States. This company started from small beginnings in the American Midwest when it was called Otto and Sons and was a family-owned food company.
Fortune shined on Otto and Sons when they became one of the main regional suppliers for a new chain of fast-food restaurants called McDonalds. Over the course of the years, OSI Group has become a global provider for McDonalds around the world.
As Otto and Sons began to grow, the company brought on board a man named Sheldon Lavin to a leadership role within the company. Eventually, Mr. Lavin took a controlling interest in the company, and the name became OSI Group. The company has seen a tremendous amount of growth under the leadership of Sheldon Lavin, and the current president and COO of the company David McDonald has been part of the company as it has experienced its growth spurt.
David McDonald has been a part of OSI Group for the past 30 years since graduating from Iowa State University. He attributes his time on the farm growing up for helping him to have a more thorough understanding of the food production process.
Since David McDonald has been part of the leadership team at OSI, the company has entered into several partnerships within the Asia region. The company has also sought growth opportunities throughout the world including opportunities in Africa, South America and Europe.
Under the leadership of Sheldon Lavin and David McDonald, OSI has purchased Baho Foods and Flagship Europe. With the purchase of these two companies, OSI will be able to penetrate deeply into the European marketplace.
OSI Group is expanding its operations in important places such as Spain. As Spain and Portugal are increasing their poultry consumption, OSI has expanded its Toledo operation to meet this rising demand.
OSI and its leadership team will continue to grow together. In the future, OSI has plans for continued expansion of its operations on a global scale.
